In Rajasthan, Film Opening

Client: A Thousand Suns Foundation

Production Company: Bunko Studios Inc.

The Challenge: Director, Katherine Kingsland had a vision of incorporating 16th century miniature painting from the Mughal Dynasty into the film opening sequence and remain as close as possible.

My Solution & final results: In the film's opening, I aimed to closely examine the cultural landscape of Hindu and Muslim traditions that Director Kingston was capturing. By using an extreme close-up approach, I brought the audience into a hyper-focused view of the illustrations as they took shape. This technique allowed me to depict the passage of time and the layered process of painting—each stroke and color representing the depth of Rajasthan’s history.

I digitally recreated the ancient artwork in Photoshop, structuring it into multiple layers to separate clusters of people and colors. The 'painting' animation was done in After Effects and mapped onto a 3D page in Maya. I collaborated closely with the 3D modeler and environment generalist to direct the final look and animation.
